Planting
Your Tree One Minute Tree Planting Guide 1. Dig the hole 2-3 times as wide as the 15 gal container, but only as deep as the tree is in the pot. 2. If a hole has been augered, it needs to be widened, and the sides of the hole must be scored. 3. After the tree is removed from the pot, loosen its root ball. 4. Plant tree one inch above grade to allow for settling and don't place any extra soil on top of root ball. 5. Remove the original nursery stake and discard. 6. Stake neatly! Stakes should be the same height, parallel to tree with one placed upwind, if planting along the street, they should line up with the curb. 7. Ties should be as low on the tree as will allow it to stand upright on its own. 8. Use extra soil to build a moat around the tree, 24"-30" wide. 9. Add 10 gallons of water at once. Street Tree Planting Reminders: 20 feet from street lights 5 feet from underground utilities 10 feet from sewer lines (look for curb mark) 5 feet from water lines (look for water meter box) 7 feet from driveway edge 20 feet apart for all trees 6 feet or less from sidewalk if there is no planting strip next to curb 15 feet back in either direction from the center of any street corner
