Tree Planting Services for Neighborhoods, Parks & Schools
Our City Forest provides an array of tree planting and related services to urban neighborhoods throughout Silicon Valley. Our City Forest also provides free trees and materials through special grants it obtains in collaboration with municipalities. Since 1994, Our City Forest has given away over 40,000 15-gallon shade trees and helped resident volunteers plant these trees in dozens of neighborhoods, 200 schools and 40 parks. With its focus on community involvement and tree stewardship, Our City Forest is proud of its track record of mobilizing 100,000+ volunteers in planting 40,000 trees with a tree survival rate of nearly 90% (City of San José audit). Created to fill a void in City services and to save taxpayer money, Our City Forest has brought in over one million dollars in State and private funding to purchase trees for public properties throughout the San José metropolitan area. A 1998 City audit determined that Our City Forest, using its volunteer-based strategies for planting and stewardship, is able to plant trees at less than half the cost of normal City costs while providing considerably higher quality services and tree survival rates. This model public-private partnership has been duplicated in other cities looking for creative ways to fill service voids cost-effectively and wisely. Our City Forest assists residents, neighborhood groups, City departments, schools, corporations and agencies, providing services ranging from tree planting to tree care to educational workshops.
