Grant Application Now! Our City Forest is a local non-profit dedicated to involving the community in the planting and care of trees. We have 15-gallon shade trees available for neighborhoods, parks, schools, and individuals of San Jose. Every planting site will be inspected by OCF staff in order to meet City specifications and permit requirements. With its focus on community involvement and tree stewardship, Our City Forest is proud of its track record of mobilizing 100,000+ volunteers in planting 50,000 trees with a tree survival rate of nearly 90% (City of San José audit). Our plantings are charactized into the following categories: Trees for All Program: The Trees for All program is for individual residents requesting trees. Able-bodied individuals may pick up their tree at one of our planting demonstrations, held every Saturday morning (except in summer). Senior and disabled residents may request to have their trees delivered and planted for them. Neighborhood Plantings: Neighborhood plantings are tree plantings within approximately a 3 block radius. These plantings differ from the Trees for All program in that OCF is able to provide more services such as delivery of trees to the site, community volunteers to help plant trees, and in some cases free concrete removal. Plantings of 15 or more trees are especially encouraged and will receive first priority for scheduling. If you would like help coordinating a planting in your neighborhood, please call (408) 998-7337. School Plantings: Our City Forest is delighted to have worked with over 200 schools in San Jose. School plantings typically allow for a much larger number of trees than would a neighborhood or park planting. Additionally, we offer our Planet Tree educational program in conjunction with these services, allowing students to learn while also getting a hands-on opportunity. See our list of "Cool Schools." Park Plantings: To plant trees in parks, OCF gets approval from the Parks&Rec department of the City of San Jose. Park plantings provide an opportunity to plant tree species that may require more space than is available on a residential parking strip, and are another great way to build community. Download a Tree
