Employment Opportunity: Tree Care and Stewardship Program Manager

 

Job Title & Description: The Tree Care and Stewardship Program Manager oversees the development and implementation of several community tree care projects each week, including daily management of AmeriCorps service members and frequent field work.  The Program Manager will correspond with City staff and the public on a regular basis.  The Program Manager will need to be able to engage, direct, and coach, service members and volunteers, as well as serve a diverse public. While a certified arborist would be a strong candidate for this position, others who meet the required qualifications listed below are welcome to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage, train, and mentor 4 to 6 AmeriCorps service members in tree care and related tasks

  • Manage volunteer recruitment and engagement for tree care programs

  • Develop work plans related to grant goals and objectives

  • Oversee tree care, tree inventory, and tree steward support programs

  • Oversee customer service with maintenance and assistance requests

  • Attain high response rates for tree steward surveys and oversee collection and analyses of survey data

  • Oversee tree health inspections for OCF-planted trees

  • Oversee tree installation assessments for resident-led plantings

  • Coordinate with agencies to obtain all necessary permits and authorizations

  • Ensure adherence to strict safety standards and best arboricultural practices

  • Ensure quality control of program-related data management systems

  • Prepare periodic reports for the above programs and activities for grant tracking

  • Meet with agencies and community groups to develop project opportunities

  • Oversee and advise on project logistics and conducts site assessments

  • Conduct presentations to community groups regarding OCF services

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Successful management experience with volunteers or staff

  • Project management experience

  • Experience and strong desire to work with diverse groups of volunteers and communities on a grassroots level

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Valid Driver's License with good DMV record

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and physically demonstrate tree care tasks

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bilingual in common Bay Area languages (English, Spanish, Vietnamese, etc.)

  • ISA Certified Arborist or has enough experience to become certified within 6 months of hire

  • Training and/or experience in tree identification, growth, installation and establishment

  • Non-profit experience

  • 4-year degree related to urban forestry/horticulture/ecology/community engagement/public policy

  • California Bay Area local or native, or plans to move to the region soon

 

Hours: Full time 40 hrs/week, Tuesday - Saturday

 

Pay: $48,000 per year or higher, based on experience and certifications, if any.  Benefits include medical, dental, vision, as well as 15 days time off per year.
