What are Lawn Busters DIY Workshops?

DIY Lawn Bust Workshops are a monthly two-day workshop where you can learn how to design and convert your own turf lawn into a drought-tolerant landscape!

Discover the facets of drought-tolerant gardening, species selection, spacing, and general care and maintenance. Learn how to leverage Valley Water's landscape rebate program and execute your own lawn bust!

What should I expect at a DIY Workshop?

  • Day 1 (Virtual): Design & species selection, water runoff abatement strategies, sheet mulching & soil amendment application.

  • Day 2 (In-person): Lanscape installation, mulching, watering, Q&A.

Virtual meeting and in-person location details will be shared via email prior to the event.

If you are unable to attend the In-person session, you are welcome to attend just the virtual presentation, however, you will not receive the 50% discount.

Need help creating a lawn conversion plan? We can help provide a mock design!

Sometimes it can be tricky to get started when considering landscape choices when executing a lawn conversion. A design from the Our City Forest LawnBusters team may be the springboard you need to get started. Help us help you by answering a few questions below to create a design that works for your landscape. We will use satellite imagery* to create a rough draft sketch for you to start your own Bust. Designs are $30.


*Designs are estimates of actual square footage values. Accurate measurements of your lawn will be required to submit plans for the Valley Water Rebate Program. There may be a wait time for designs depending on the waitlist. Payment will be invoiced when design is completed. If you would like to be removed from our design waitlist at any point please email lawnbusters@ourcityforest.org to let us know.
