Our City Forest has been the leading urban forestry non-profit in the San José area since 1994. Our mission is to cultivate a green and healthy Silicon Valley by engaging community members in the appreciation, protection, growth and maintenance of our urban ecosystem, especially our urban forest.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
This paid internship will provide participants with professional skills and experience in arboriculture and urban forestry. This position will provide interns the opportunity to learn best practices for tree/shrub planting and tree care techniques to gain a well-rounded understanding of urban forestry stewardship. Interns will work closely with OCF staff and community members to play an active role in volunteer recruitment and community engagement in urban forestry stewardship. These interns will focus on installation and stewardship of a Miyawaki Pocket Forest in the Lyndale Community. The goal of creating this green space is to increase urban canopy and reduce the burden of urban pollution on the community.
REQUIREMENTS
Independence High School Student
Customer service-oriented and ability to work well with people of all backgrounds
Ability to collaborate with team members
Strong written & oral communication skills
Ability to complete outdoor, labor intensive field work
HOURS: Each Intern may work a maximum of 180 hours
Saturdays only between March 2027 through June 2027: 7:30 AM - 2:00 PM (note: schedule is flexible and may end early depending on field activities)
July 1st, 2027- July 24, 2027 : Options to work Wednesday- Saturday 7:30- 3:30 PM
COMPENSATION
$18/hr; up to 20 hours per week
